The Savannah Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon is always a great weekend in Savannah. The streets are packed with runners, who come from all over the world for this annual race. This year, approximately 12,000 registered runners took the streets of Savannah, with ages ranging from 12 to 81. The weekend running activities included a Marathon, ½ Marathon, a 2 person half marathon relay, a 5K and 1 mile races.
The marathon and half marathon route went through scenic downtown Savannah’s Historic District, starting at City Hall. Runners were able to see the famous Spanish moss-draped trees, charming neighborhoods, and a grand finish line at Forsyth Park.
Throughout the race course, bands were set up playing live music from 7:30 AM to 3:15 PM to cheer the racers on! Bands included Islands High School Marching Band, American Hologram, Samba Savannah, and the Savannah State University Tiger’s Marching Band and Drumline.
Southern Eagle Distributing and Michelob Ultra supplied the post-race beers for all of the runners and event attendees. Michelob Ultra is the perfect low-carb beer for runners, with a crisp clean taste.
The Savannah Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon isn’t just about the racers! There were activities all weekend long. After the race, Nickel Bag Of Funk performed, as well as, Dave Landeo & The Sol Beats. The headliner act for this years Toyota Rock ‘N’ Roll concert series was Michael Franti & Spearhead.
- Savannah’s own Ben Brown won the men’s full marathon race with his first-place effort clocking a time of 2:33:23
- Katie Ringley from Shelby, North Carolina, was the women’s marathon champion with a final time of 2:58:15
- Blake Jorgensen from Atlanta, Georgia won the half marathon clocking a time of 1:08:41
- Lauren Scott from Neptune Beach, Florida, was the women’s half marathon champion with a final time of 1:23:38
