In February, the South Carolina Brewers’ Guild held their Inaugural SC Beer Awards. For the first time, South Carolina brewers competed on the state level against each other in this exciting event! There were nearly 60 categories, with 240 beers entered. Categories included Coffee Beer, Robust Porter, American Style Pale Ale, Blonde Ale, and so much more. We are proud to share some of the incredible beers we distribute were apart of the winning circle!
At Southern Eagle Distributing, we are Beer People first and are proud to be a part of this incredible industry in South Carolina. We are proud to offer some of these winning brews from Commonhouse Aleworks, New South Brewing, Rusty Bull Brewing, and Southern Barrel Brewing.
Commonhouse Aleworks took home 4 awards at the SC Beer Awards.
Wise One – Gold in the South German-Style Hefeweizen Category
Wise one is an American Interpretation of the classic German Hefeweizen, with flavors of vanilla and banana. This golden wheat beer is refreshing and goes perfect with some goat cheese.
Park Circle Pale Ale – Silver in the Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale Category
This tasty pale ale is perfect year-round and has a hop-forward pale taste. It has a soft body and subtle bitterness, leaving you wanting another. Park Circle Pale Ale has also won the Bronze Medal at the 2018 LA International Beer Competition.
The Air is Salty – Silver in the Sour or Brett Beer Category
This version of the much beloved unfiltered German sour wheat beer is sourced with a special probiotic blend and then brewed with coriander and locally produced salt from Bulls Bay Saltworks. This twangy and refreshing beer will not leave you feeling salty.
Barony Whipper: Dark Cherry – Silver in the Fruited American-Style Sour Ale Category
This beer is refreshingly tart and palatable and uses darker malts for added complexity. Plus, there is a copious amount of tart Montmorency cherries (500lbs worth!).
Looking East IPA – Honorable Mention in the American-Style IPA Category
This thoroughly bitter and lush hop forward IPA is a fan favorite. No surprise it was an honorable mention in the American-Style IPA category!
Rusty Bull Brewing took home 4 awards.
This North-Charleston brewery is dedicated to making incredible craft beers in a fun family-friendly environment.
Squad Up – Silver in the Belgian-Style Dubbel or Quad Category
This beer is brewed in collaboration with 13 Stripes Brewery in Greenville. It is a dark ale with a full body, malty palate and spicy, ripe fruit flavors.
Tumbling Monk – Bronze in the Robust Porter Category
This beer is always a good time, with a bouquet of chocolate, roasted coffee notes and a natural pistachio flavor for a fun touch.
Barrel Aged Over Boar’d – Bronze in the Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer Category
This beer is brewed with delicious bacon and is over the top in alcohol content. It has hints of maple, for a smooth finish.
Darth Marwhal – Gold in the American Style Fruit Beer Category
We invite you to step into the dark side with this delicious and smooth chocolate-infused beer, with notes of raspberry. This is a great beer for dessert, or taking down a Jedi.

Waccamaw Red – Bronze in the American-Style Amber or Red Ale Category
Named after the Waccamaw Riber that rounds through Horry Country, this red ale is balanced with a quick hop bite, followed by a malty sweetness.
Dirty Myrtle – Bronze in the Imperial India Pale Ale Category
This golden honey colored beer has scents of citrus, with some piney hops. It has a medium flavor, that drinks smooth.
Java The Nut – Honorable Mention in the Coffee Beer Category
This coffee beer is aged in a rich blend of Peruvian and El Salvadoran coffee beans, which are roasted locally by Rivertown Roasters in Conway, SC. It smells of freshly brewed coffee, with a touch of hazelnut and biscuit.
New South IPA – Honorable Mention in the American Style India Pale Ale Category
A staple at New South Brewing, this IPA has a copper color, assertive hop bitterness, and is nitrogen infused for a unique flavor.
Southern Barrel won Gold in American Style Pale Ale.
Beach Bully- Gold in the American-Style Pale Ale Category
Beach Bully is an easy drinking, hop-forward pale ale, perfect for beach lounging. This delicious beer will be available year-round starting on 3/31!
